Planning for NaNoWriMo

Posted by on Oct 14, 2009 in General, projects | 2 comments

Share photos on twitter with TwitpicNovember is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). The goal is to write 50,000 words by the end of November. That means an average of around 1700 words a night!  So, all through October I’m using Evernote.com to organise my thought, ideas, plots and chapters. I’m shooting to have 30 decent chapter ideas ready to go so that each night, I start afresh on a new chapter. I’m not going to worry too much about sequence and voice at this stage. I’m going to just bang out the story in my head and see what develops.

So, if you’re game enough, sign up on the NaNoWriMo site and join me. If you’re already signed up, find me there and let’s encourage each other along, I know I’ll need it.

Finding My Emotive Self

emotive_self2

This was a little project inspired once again by Chica’s Photo Projectz site. The challenge was to

“Take a photo you like… and play around with it in your favorite editing program to come up with a heavily filtered look that you feel adds to the image and leaves you with an entirely different (when compared to the original), but enjoyable, result.”

I chose an image I took a while back. It’s an emotive portrait. I started fiddling with my filters and sliders in the GIMP. I ended up using a very heavy dose of the oil painting filter followed by some extreme unsharp masking. I liked the warm rich color and the heavy shadow effect. Hopefully this edit has enhanced my emotive effect.

IRSCL project update

The IRSCL website is coming along. Maintaining the integrity of the design and cross browser compatibility in CSS has been a real pain in the silicon chips. I would love to instantly ban all use of IE5 and IE6. I don’t know why people continue to use such bloated and non-compliant software on their computers. Anyway, I think I’ve shaken most of the IE bugs out except for the transparent png issue. That’ll be next on the list.

Content and special features are yet to come. If you have any feedback or comment on the code, let me know.

irscl

I’ve justed started work on a new web design and interface for the IRSCL. I’ve registered 2 new domain names for them irscl.com and irscl.org and will port the text from their old site to the new ones. The site will include member interactive areas, forums, blog and an easy user management system.

The site will have a more contemporary look and feel aiming for a more professional presentation rich in graphics and easy navigation interface. If you’ve never heard of IRSCL, please check out their current site and stay tuned for the launch of the new one in the coming month.
