This is our new pup Indy. Indy is half Golden Retriever and half Poodle, otherwise known as a Groodle or a Golden Doodle. Whatever the name, he’s an adorable pup. I’ve taken many photos of him already but I wanted to show something of his nature. I like this shot cause it captures his playfulness and his oodles of shaggy hair.

I’m so proud of my little gal Juniper. She’s 10 years old and is a creative genius. About a year and a half ago, she asked me to set up a website for her, juniper’s tree house. She likes to write and often she’ll sit at her computer and write little essays for her site.
Last night, I had a look and noticed that she had posted a couple of essays. The essays tell a story about our two cats, Harley and Banjo. In Banjo’s Narrative, she tells the story from his perspective. In Harley’s Narrative, she re-tells the same story from Harley’s perspective. I am very impressed with her narrative concept and feline insight. At 10 years old, I think she’s a brilliant writer. If you get the chance, pop over to her site and say hello.
Creative Photography Judge
Sometimes I am compelled to take a photo only to find that the photo is sub-standard. This is when I start thinking about why the shot is so compelling and how could I capture that essence on the camera. I keep thinking and experimenting until I get an image that works.
I came upon this boardwalk while walking around a nature reserve near my house. I really liked the look of this boardwalk cutting across this grassy/swampy area. After taking many photos, none really capture the essence of what I was seeing. I kept looking at it and then realised what intrigued me most was the line of the curve plus the muted contrast between boards and grass. I started experimenting with zoom and tilting my camera until I hit upon this image. This is what stopped me at this spot in the first place. Just tiliting my camera gave me that perfect perspective to show off the contrast and the curve.

Yes, we have a new addition to the little red planet zoo. Meet Indie, the 14 week old Groodle. What’s a Groodle you say? A Groodle is a mix between a Poodle and a Golden Retriever. Indie has been with us for almost a week. He’s settled in very well and has already made his mark (bite mark!) on a large selection of furniture. He likes to chew house shoes, socks and all the wooden furniture including the stairs.
He’s getting along with the rest of the family very well. He even tolerates little Willow! Over the weekend he became better acquainted with Harley, our cat. I can see Harley sleeping on top of Indie in the future but, as for now, they prefer to admire each other from a distance.

G’Day from Oz. I hope you’ve had a great weekend … I did 
Here’s my Wordless Wednesday (well almost wordless and it’s actually Friday now). Although it doesn’t feel like it, spring is on its way to Oz. This is a shot I took yesterday of an ornamental cherry tree that hangs across the drive way. I was on my way to the shops in the rain, when I noticed that the tree had blossomed. I quickly pulled out the tripod and camera and took a couple of snaps before me and the gear got soaked.
For this weeks Creative Photo, I peered into cosmic genesis and found the likeness of my little cherub gently encouraging infant stars into the Small Magellanic Cloud crèche.
If your curious about this small satellite galaxy NGC 602 (pictured) near the Small Magellanic Cloud it’s 200 thousand light-years distant. Surrounded by natal gas and dust, NGC 602 is featured in this stunning Hubble image of the region. Fantastic ridges and swept back shapes strongly suggest that energetic radiation and shock waves from NGC 602’s massive young stars have eroded the dusty material and triggered a progression of star formation moving away from the cluster’s center. At the estimated distance of the Small Magellanic Cloud, the nebula background picture spans about 200 light-years, but a tantalizing assortment of background galaxies are also visible in the sharp Hubble view. The background galaxies are hundreds of millions of light-years or more beyond NGC 602.
My precious Juniper was sick from Tuesday til Sunday. She had a fever until Sunday. The Doc said it was nothing sinister and that she needed lots of rest and fluids. We stayed pretty close to home all weekend. I didn’t get the opportunity to take many photos. I did manage to get this photo of her sleeping on the couch as a very soft winter sun streamed through the window.
While my brother Harley was decapitating poor Little Teddy, I did not participate.
