My daughter Juniper believs she’s a surfie chick. She’s had me redecorate her room with a beach theme. I’ve even had to add to her wall mural so that it looks more ‘beachy’. I decided to do a series of macro shots on some of her ocean critter collection. Here’s a brief slideshow of what I’ve photographed so far.

I took my two girls out to the beach today. My youngest, Willow, disturbed a flock of pelicans. This one was just settling back onto the water.

The soulful, timeless grace and presence of whales represent the very mystery of nature itself. Japan uses a loophole to kill whales with explosive harpoons under the guise of “scientific research” while selling the whale meat. Take a stand and proudly display your anti-whaling belief.

It’s still hard to come to terms with a hot Christmas even though I have been living downunder for 11 years. I took the girls out to Ricketts Point this weekend. They had a great time playing in the water and I managed to get this very graceful shot. It’s amazing that on land pelicans seem so clumsy but when they take wing … it’s effortless.
