So what happens when you get a bored photographer wandering through the house ….

We had a really crazy weekend capped off by an all day party on Sunday for an Iranian PhD student and her family (hubby and little girl) who have just arrived in Australia to live. We did the traditional Aussi BBQ thing. Unfortunately, I didn’t lug the camera along on the event. But, along came Sunday night and I realised that I hadn’t had an opportunity to take many photos this weekend. The HORROR!

I pulled out my camera and drifted around the house at about midnight. I noticed Mamma Planet had left her tea cup on her desk. The bright red cup with semi dried tea bag looked just too interesting to pass up. I went in for the photo kill on macro mode. Here’s the image I bagged.

Hope you’ve had a great weekend too!

From our balcony, when you look east, you see one of the ridges of the Dandenong Ranges. Each morning, about the time I wake up, I am frequently greeted with a stunning sunrise as the sun fires up the sky as it ascends over the ridge. Some distance away, the top of a tree is completely dead but sits almost center of the rising sun. I took this photo of the tree and the sun as it was rising.

I edited the image in the GIMP tweeking the hue slider towards the red tones. This is my second entry into the Creative Photo Contest.

Roger from Idaho Daily Photo has created a new blog that hosts a creative photography contest each week. The rules are simple. Just post a creative photo titled Creative Photo and add your details to the Mister Linky widget on the blog.

Here’s my entry for this week. This was my attempt to do something creative with the bathtub and honor a great poet. No, that’s not blood or colored water, it’s just plain ol’ water that I’ve creatively enhanced for effect. I had just read a touching poem by Whitman called When his Hour For Death Had Come. I won’t spoil the poem for you. If you’re curious, go find it and have a read … it’s worth the effort. This was my little homage to Whitman’s creative genius.

Chica at the Photo Projectz blog issued the following challenge:

I want no use of natural light, no use of flash, and no use of any big lamp lighting. use any other creative lighting you can find, be it a flame, a laser, or a flashlight. Whatever you can think of.

Here’s my fairly lamo attempt at a no light style photo. I set the shutter on 30 second exposure and used a small hand held red light to trace a vague outline of my body. I like the ghost like effect and tried to scare my 10 yo with this photo. I told her I was taking pictures of stars outside and when I downloaded my photos, this appeared. She bought it hook line and sinker. She loves a good ghost story and immediately got on the phone to tell others.

I had to finally fess up to my trick cause she was becoming too scared to go to sleep by herself in her room tonight .
